Medical treatment for dandruff and seborrhoea dermatitis.
Selsun suspension is a medicated shampoo used to treat dandruff and seborrhoea dermatitis. It works against dandruff in two ways; by reducing greasiness of the scalp and by slowing down growth of the layer of skin cells on the scalp that cause dandruff.
Selsun is a thick beige suspension that contains selenium sulphide 2.5% w/V as the active ingredient.
Other ingredients are: bentonite, titanium dioxide, citric acid, sodium acid phosphate, glyceryl monoricinoleate S, monoethanolamine lauryl sulphate, Empigen BB, perfume, sodium chloride and purified water.
Not to be used to treat children under 5 years old.
Selsun suspension is not licensed as a treatment for Pityriasis Versicolor but it works. Dilute the shampoo 1:1 with water, apply to the affected areas, leave to dry and wash off 24 hours later. This should be repeated twice a week for 4 weeks.
